Estou de volta! / I'm back!

Olá! Estou de volta!

Eu sei que já não escrevo um post há imenso tempo, mas tenho andado muito ocupada!

O meu trabalho de dia tem-me ocupado muito, mesmo muito! A empresa onde trabalho há dez anos está numa fase de reestruturação e mudança o que faz com que todos tenhamos muito que fazer para cumprir os prazos pré-estabelecidos.

Para além disso também tenho tido uma vida social bastante agitada: durante a semana nem vale a pena pensar em fazer mais alguma coisa do que seguir a rotina do costume, e os fins-de-semana têm sido bastante agitados: Entre as visitas à família, num fim-de-semana tivémos um piquenique, noutro tive visitas, depois combinámos outro piquenique para festejar o aniversário de três amigos ao mesmo tempo... Ufff!

Mesmo assim, tive oportunidade para descobrir o Vidro Marinho (e até para encontrar algum!), pude ir a uma festa de Dia da Mãe na escola do meu pequeno e de fazer umas quantas peças com pedras apanhadas na ribeira onde fizémos o primeiro piquenique.

Bom... Vamos lá recapitular: 

Vidro Marinho

Adorei descobrir esta nova forma de fazer bijuteria! É tão romântica! É perfeita para uma pessoa como eu, que gosta de deixar a imaginação voar e pensar nos comos e nos porquês das coisas.

O Vidro Marinho é vidro comum que passou anos, décadas, às vezes mais de uma centena de anos no mar e acabou por ficar polido pela acção das ondas e da areia. Por vezes a sua cor muda por acção da água do mar e dos raios UV do sol. Com estas peças fazem-se pendentes para colares, brincos, pulseiras... Tudo o que a criatividade nos permitir! Estas são só algumas das peças que eu já encontrei. Por onde será que estes pedaços de vidro já andaram? O que seriam antes de serem cuidadosamente polidos pelos oceanos? Por que mãos passaram? Como foram parar ao mar? Que tipo de jóia vou eu fazer com eles?! lol

Também encontrei pedaços de mosaicos que darão pendentes muito originais! Na foto da esquerda estão alguns exemplos, aquilo que decidi considerar a frente está do lado esquerdo, e a parte de trás do lado direito. Encontrei também umas conchas com umas cores fantásticas, só não sei muito bem ainda o que vou fazer com elas! Mas vou descobrir, e quando descobrir prometo vir aqui contar tudinho!

Visitas!

A minha prima Re veio passar o fim-de-semana connosco, e trouxe o seu fiel amigo Ramstein. Lindo, não é?

Passámos praticamente todo o fim-de-semana na praia, a passear, a absorver o sol, a conversar e a brincar. Foi muito bom ter cá a minha priminha. Morar longe da família tem as suas desvantagens e eu aprecio muito cada momento que consigo passar com os meus familiares, por isso soube-me que nem ginjas ter cá a minha prima e pôr a conversa em dia com ela.

Piqueniques!

Este tem sido um ano de piqueniques! Não é algo que eu tenha o hábito de fazer, até porque sou o tipo de pessoa que aprecia o seu conforto e tem necessidade dele por motivos de saúde. No entanto, este ano já fizémos três! 

O primeiro foi pela escolinha do meu filho e nunca pus a hipótese de não ir! Foi muito bom conviver com as famílias das crianças que frequentam a escola, com todas as funcionárias fora do contexto escolar, fazer jogos tradicionais com os miúdos e também com os graúdos! LOL Gostámos bastante e acabámos por combinar com amigos (que também são pais de crianças que frequentam a mesma escola do meu filho) fazer outro piquenique no 1º de Maio.

O Dia do Trabalhador tem grande expressão no Algarve e manda a tradição que se faça um piquenique  e se comam caracóis. Encontrou-se outro local com melhor acesso à ribeira, combinámos levar "comes e bebes", fatos de banho, toalhas e muita boa disposição. O dia correu tão bem que houve quem lá ficasse a passar a noite e nós só não ficámos porque não tínhamos condições para isso (tenda, sacos-cama, etc.). Fomos dormir a casa e voltámos no dia a seguir! hehehe Divertimo-nos imenso, houve quem tomasse banho na ribeira e eu e as crianças apanhámos pedrinhas da ribeira para recordação. Quando cheguei a casa, lavei as pedras e pu-las a secar, só que, depois de secas achei que elas perdiam um bocado da sua beleza. Eram muito mais interessantes quando estavam molhadas. Solução para o meu pequeno problema: Verniz! Depois de lavadas, muito bem secas e polidas, envernizei as pedras da ribeira. Na foto que se segue mostro-vos o antes e o depois. Envernizadas parecem-me muito melhor, e muito mais apropriadas para serem usadas em coisas bonitas, não acham?

O piquenique que se seguiu foi a festa de aniversário de três dos nosso amigos. Todos eles estiveram presentes no piquenique anterior por isso decidi fazer-lhes um presente com as pedras da ribeira. Não é muito fácil fazer bijuteria para homens, especialmente para homens que não usam fato e gravata todos os dias, por isso não dá para fazer um alfinete de gravata ou botões de punho! Assim sendo resolvi fazer-lhes porta-chaves personalizados especialmente para eles. Eis o resultado dos meus esforços e da minha aprendizagem.

Aparentemente esqueci-me de tirar uma foto à parte de trás do porta-chaves do Bruno, mas tirei uma a segurá-lo na minha mão para poder mostrar que o design das letras permite que estejam soltas e balancem à vontade.

Já que estava a criar presentes de aniversário para os homens, decidi criar também algo para as suas esposas, também para poder mostrar-lhes o meu trabalho e porque gosto muito delas e aprecio a sua amizade. Assim sendo fiz-lhes os três pendentes que se seguem e também fiz o cordão para o colocarem (podem ver o cordão na última foto - fio de algodão preto, entrançado):

Para a Guida, mulher do Óscar - Incorporei um cristal Swarovski que a representa como matriarca da família, uma conta azul que representa o seu marido e quatro contas cor de rosa, representando as suas quatro filhas:

E pronto, isto é o que tem mantido ocupada e afastada do blog. Tenho ainda muitos planos pela frente!

• Quero fazer algumas peças com Vidro Marinho;
• Quero fazer um projecto que recebi por e-mail de Wire Sculpture, de Ear Vines. Um género de brincos que achei o máximo;
• Quero fazer um anel do tipo Anel de Faró, de um tutorial da minha querida Carol Ladine;
• Recebi uma encomenda que fiz no Etsy de uma série de cabochons e camafeus que quero utilizar em wire wrapping;

Já agora, quero ter bastante tempo livre para poder fazer tudo isto e não necessáriamente por esta ordem!

Hello! I'm back!

I know I haven't written a post in a long time, but I've been so busy!

My day job has been keeping me very, very busy! The company where I work for ten years now is at a stage of restructuring and moving facilities which causes that we all have a lot to do to be on schedule.

Besides that, I've been having a hectic social life: On week days I don't have much time do to anything else than follow the routine, and the weekends have been quite busy too: In between visiting the family, on one weekend we had a picnic, on another we had visitors, then we had another picnic to celebrate the birthdays of three of our friends... Pheww!

Even so, I managed to find out about Sea Glass (and even to find some myself!), I got to go to a Mother's Day party at my son's school, and to make some pieces with stones that I collected from a small river where we had the first picnic.

Well... Let's do a recap:

Sea Glass

I loved finding out about this new way of making jewelry! It's so romantic! It is perfect for someone like me, who likes to let the imagination run free and think about the how's and whys of things.

Sea Glass is comon glass that has spent years, decades, sometimes over a hundred years at sea and ended up being polished by the waves and the sand. Sometimes, the sea water and the UV rays from the sun even change it's color. With these pieces of Sea Glass, one can make pendants, earrings, bracelets... Anything our creativity dreams of! These are just some of the pieces I have found. I wonder where have these pieces of glass been? What were they before being lovely polished by the sea? Who's hands handled them? How did they end up on the ocean's waves?  What kind of jewelry am I going to make with them? lol

I have also found pieces of tiles that will make for very original pendants! On the photo on the left are some examples. What I decided to think of as the front is on the left side, and the back on the right side. I also found some seashells with amazing colors, I 'm just not quite sure what to make with them! But I will find out, and when I do I promise to come here and tell you all about it!

Visitors!

My cousin Re came to our home for the weekend, and she brought along her  loyal friend Ramstein. Gorgeous, isn't he?

We spent most of the weekend at the beach, walking, soaking up the sun, talking and playing. It was great to have my dear cousin with me. Living far from the family has its disadvantages and I truly appreciate all the moments I get to send with mine, so having my cousin over and catching up on the news with her felt like a million bucks.

Picnics!

This year has been big on picnics! It's not something that I usually do, since I'm the kind of person that appreciates confort and needs it for health issues. However, this year we' already had three! The first picnic was with my son' school and I never thought of not going! It was very nice to be with the families of the other children who attend the school, to be with all the employees outside the school context, to have traditional games with the kids and the grownups too! LOL 

We really enjoyed it and ended up  arranging to have another picnic on May 1st with some friends who are also parents to some of the kids that go to the same school. Workers Day is a big deal here in the algarve, and tradition says have a picnic and eat snails. Here's a picture of a dish of snails, prepared the portuguese way, especially for my foreign friends: 

A place was found with a better access to the river, we arranged to take food and drink, swimsuits, beach towels and plenty of good spirits. The day was such great fun that there was some who decided to spend the night there and we didn't stay for the night because we had no way of doing it (no tent, no sleeping bags, etc.). We went home to sleep and went back there the next day! Tee hee We had a lot of fun, some people went for a swim in the river and me and the kids collected stones to keep as souvenirs. When I got home I washed the stones and left them do dry out, but when they were dry I though they lost their beauty.. They were a lot more interesting when they were wet. The solution I found for my little problem: Polish!  I polished the river rolled stones. In this next picture I show you the before and the after. They look a lot better with the polish, and much more appropriated to be turned into pretty things, don't you think?

The next picnic was the birthday party of three of our friends. All of them were at the previous picnic so I decided to make them a gift with the river stones. I find that it is quite difficult to make jewelry for men, particularly for men that don't wear a suit and a necktie everyday, so I can't make them a tie pin or  cuff links! So, I decided to make some personalized key chains, especially for them. This is the result of my work and my learning.

It seems I forgot to take a picture of the back of Bruno's key chain, but I did take one while holding it in my hand to show you that the way I designed the initials they hang loose.

Since I was creating birthday presents for the guys, I decided to create something for their wives too, also as a way to show them my work and because I really love them and appreciate their friendship. So, I made them three pendants and the cord to hang them in (you can see the cord in the last picture - black cotton braid):

For Guida, Óscar's wife - I added a Swarovski crystal, that represents her as the matriarch of the family, a blue bead representing her husband, and four pink beads that stand for their four daughters:

For Susana, Pinto's wife - She's so loving that I thought a heart would be perfect:

And finally, for Sílvia, Bruno's wife - The beads represent her three boys and a girl:

And that's it, this is what has been keeping me away from the blog. I still have a lot planned to do!

• I want to make some pieces with Sea Glass;
• I want to make a Ear Vines project that I got in my e-mail from Wire-Sculpture. It's a kind of earrings that I thought were great;
• I want to make a Pharaoh's Ring, from a tutorial by my dearest Carol Ladine;
• I received an order I made on Etsy of some cabochons and cameos that I want to wire wrap;

By the way, I want to have plenty of free time so that i can make all this and not necessarily in this order!
