Abri uma loja online! / Open for online business!

Entretanto, visitem-me aqui (link também no menu lateral):

A minha loja em artesanum
I had been considering opening an online shop for a while. I've looked at Etsy and Zibbet, but this sites, tough very good, were not filling my cup mainly because they're mostly directed at other countries. They both have a roaring success in the USA or in the UK, for instance, but have almost no expression in Portugal. Not that I would mind selling there, but I'd rather find a way to do it here. And I have!
The website Artesanum is an online platform to help establishing contact between seller and buyer. I can't sell directly though it (like Etsy) but they also charge no commissions and have a nice, clean design and it's in Portuguese and Spanish! One other thing that made me jump right in, register and open the shop is that they "donate all their profit, for 20 years to social projects in developing countries, many of those with communities that rely on crafts to make their income". I think this is fantastic! I feel that I'm contributing too and it's a great feeling!
I haven't added a lot of item in the shop, it takes quite some time to do it, but I'll get there! In the meanwhile, click the icon and take a peak (also in the side bar)!

Novos brincos / New earrings

Fazem-me pensar no Verão!

Definitely, these last days have been very productive. Probably because of my new workspace, where I find it much easier and comfortable to work on each piece, or maybe because I'm happy with the results and with the support I have from the people around me. My dear husband in undoubtedly essential for me to feel this way! Kiss for you, love!
After I made the Lolly Bracelet, I thought the same kind of design would make adorable earrings! I speak for myself, and I do have a soft spot for long earrings, but I think these sweeties lend a discreet charm and elegance to the person wearing them.
[1st picture]
When I made the light pulls from the previous post, I shared a photo of them with my forum friends (after all I owe the brilliant idea to one of them) and practically all the answers i received to that post said that the light pulls were very nice and that they would look great as earrings. So, I promised to make earrings inspired by the design of the pulls and here they are! As always, I think I can do better, even tough the blue mother-of-pearl and cat's eye beads look really cool. they remind me of the summer! Or am I just missing it too much?!
[2nd Picture]
Things were really working out for me, so I decided to jump head first into a new technique called free form wire wrapping. I put the squared spiral together with the wire wrapping and I really liked how it turned out!
If you're wondering why the spirals are "back-to-back" with each other, it's because it looks much better when you hang the on your ears than if they were both in the same position. trust me! We want earrings to be mirroring each other.

A while ago, my sister-in-law and my brother decided to give as a present to my parents a mini-makeover of their bedroom, that has been the same for over 20 years. Taking advantage of a week of holidays when my parents were away, they both spent every free minute to redecorate the bedroom. Even tough they were both working their regular jobs and it was complicated to do everything they had planned in such a short period of time, they did it and managed to surprise my parents with it. No need to say that the bedroom looked great and that my parents, especilly my mother, were very happy with the care and love they got from this gesture.

The new bedroom includes some fancy lights on the wall above the bed and after seeing this brilliant idea from a friends shop, I knew I had to make nice light pulls for my parents new bedroom.
After discussing this idea with my sister-in-law and after her accepting it (of course, I didn't want to mess up their work), we decided the light pulls would be green, to match the pillows and curtains. This is the result. I will be spending Easter at my parents home, so I'll put the chain on when I get there so it's the perfect length.

Pulseira Lolly / Lolly's Bracelet

The other night I was fiddling with my beads not yet knowing what to do with them, when I picked up some deep red beads and a red-loving friend came to my mind. It didn't take much more to put them together with silver bead caps and have the design for a bracelet crystal clear on my mind. And it did came out exactly how I pictured it!

Mais ferramentas! / More tools!

There aren't many things that get a bead addicted so excited as new tools, except of course, if we consider about new beads!
Considering that I've been searching for an anvil for over three weeks, you can imagine how great an excitement I felt when I finally found one, this Saturday. Furthermore, it came to my workspace bringing along a new little bench vise and a new ball peen hammer!!!
My husband could have never imagined that his wife would jump up and down with happiness in the tools section at Leroy Merlin's store, anyway, his wife could have never imagined to one day know so much about hammers, pliers and similar items!
Just check out what beautiful new tools I've bought!

My litle bit of bead heaven!

Finalmente consegui!

In the last post I wanted to show you all at once. It was sort of a summing up of all that's happening and that has kept me away from the blog.
I meant to have said in the previous post that now I get it why they call these rings, instant gratification pieces... They're so easy to make and they look so pretty the we feel an immediate sense of reward! Now, I wish to show you each ring in detail, because I feel ever more confident in my capabilities and proud of my creations.

1. Copper wire ring with a pink star shaped glass 10mm bead and two cat's eye 4mm beads
2. Copper wire ring with a 20mm coin glass bead in black and gold
3. Silver wire ring with a blue and yellow 20mm glass bead
4. Silver wire ring with a heart shaped 15mm glass bead in baby blue and white
5. Silver wire ring with a 20mm pink glass bead
6. Copper wire ring with 6mm cloisonné beads, six green and one black, shaped to form a flower

Last Wednesday, I gave my dear sister-in-law her ring that I had broken. It was so sweet of her to let me borrow it and I felt really bad to have broken it. It was an accident, but that never stops us from feeling bad, right? I kept the broken ring, hoping to, someday, find a way to fix it... And that day has come! Here's the ring: (last picture)

Gratificação instantânea! / Instant gratification!

Sinto-me muito satisfeita comigo própria.

----------------------------

In the early days of this month, while stroling trough a Fnac store, I found a book that caught my eye and ended up buying it. It's in english and it's called Creating Wire and Beaded Jewelry, by Linda Jones. I'm very happy with it, because this little book covers all the basic skills that I already knew, but I feel it's always good to recicle and discover new ways of doing the same things, and it also teaches how to make several kinds of chains, bracelets, rings, earrings... All of which more or less basic but classic examples of techiniques that may be used to make other, more elaborated and beautiful pieces.

From here I started exploring new ways of wire working and made my first attempt at a Tree of Life. It's not on of the book's projects, but one thing led to another...
The Tree of Life has deep roots in most of the worlds cultures and religions, and in the western culture it's a way of representing the Paradise's Tree, not the one from where the proverbial apple came from, that's the Tree of the Knowledge of good and Evil, but another one, who would provide the eternal life. Nowadays, this tree symbolizes not only life or immortality, but also luck, fortune, harmony or the universe. In jewelry we find mostly Tree of Life pendants but I've seen bracelets also. I made a pendant, and  I've been told by some very knowledgeable people that, for a firs time it came out really good!

Back to the book, it includes a project to make simple rings and, ofcourse that I had to try! I made a ring but, to be truthful, i wasn't happy with it. It didn't seem right and I even wear it one day to see how it went, but even then I wasn't convinced. I made a web research to find other ways of doing it and voilá!

In the picture there are six rings, but i made seven in a row! After I get the hang of it it was a breeze! I mean, after I found out that it wasn't coming out right because I was using 12 gauge wire instead of 16 gauge which I think it's usuas for this rings... When I picked up the 16 gauge wire it was spectacularly easy!!! I'm very happu with these rings. They are, starting from the left: Copper wire ring with a pink star shaped glass 10mm bead and two cat's eye 4mm beads; Copper wire ring with a 20mm coin glass bead in black and gold; Silver wire ring with a blue and yellow 20mm glass bead; Silver wire ring with a heart shaped 15mm glass bead in baby blue and white; in front of this one there's a Silver wire ring with a 20mm pink glass bead, and finally, a Copper wire ring with 6mm cloisonné beads, six green and one black, shaped to form a flower.
I made another ring, but that's a susprise for a very dear person and so I won't post it here yet!

I'm very happy with my progress. I feel very pleased with myself. I'm very happy with all the support I've got, especially with my husbands support who is always the to praise me, or to tell me very honestly when my work isn't that good.
Now, I just want to find the time to make my own work space at home, like we talked about. We're going to have to make some changes, move the furniture around, etc, but I think it will work out just fine, really very well. In the time being I've been working on my couch with a tray on my lap, but I think that it's taking a tole on my back so I want a table as soon as possible, a space dedicated only to my creations... A Sunshine's Creations Design Studio! LOL I promise to post some pictures afterwards!

Dia Internacional da Mulher / Women's International Day

A mulher. O ser humano. A filha. A irmã. A amiga. A esposa. A mãe. A tia. A avó...

The International Women Day is the chosen day to honor women.
The woman. The human being. The daughter. The sister. The friend. The wife. The mother. The aunt. The grandmother... The Women that are a huge and wonderful world by herselves and that embrace the rest of the world with a smile or an incoherent tear.
To celebrate this day, Sunshine's Creations is going to give a present to the fans. To those who sign up through a comment here, or on the blog, will be given a number. On March 8th, at noon thirty I will use a random number generator to chose the lucky woman or man (there's always someone to give a gift to) that will be winner of these earrings.

Tenho andado ocupada... / I've been busy...

Falta-me a palavra... Ajudem-me! Ah! Apresento-lhes os Chained in Heaven!

É a minha Mum's Gift. :)

Apparently I got careless and a lot of time has passed since my last post... But that's just apparently! I've been a very busy girl!! Take a look at the great pair of earrings I made, inspired by the romantic atmosphere that Valentine's  left around here...
I call them Heart Set! Contrasting hearts dangling from a long silvery chain, one in hot red Swarovski crystal and the other a glittering, cold silver! I love them! I don't know if I wont keep them! :)

Next I was playing with some earring findings that were asking to come out of the box for ages! I fell for it when I saw it it the shop and after I had it it seemed like nothing was good enough for it. Well, one of these night I found just what was missing in them!
Silver metal findings with a blue detail in  the center, with dangles made of blue 4mm faceted czech  balls and little silver 3mm balls. The hanging chain makes them look... I cant get the right word... Help me! Ah! Introducing Chained in Heaven!

And now for the grand finalle!
My mother had an hematite necklace that I loved... Until one day she gave it to me! Just so that I would find out that I couldn't wear it for long because the weight of the stones was making my neck and shoulders ache. Answering your question: No, it's not that heavy, it just happens that I have back problems and a very delicate neck and shoulders.
I remember I used to have matching earrings but I lost them, precisely because they were so comfortable that I didn't take them off  when I took the necklace off, and as a result they didn't go in the box at the same time and ended up forgotten somewhere... sniff... sniff... Well, maybe I'll make a pair of earrings to match the beautiful bracelet that was born from a necklace that was forgoten for year at the bottom of an old jewelry box! This is an heirloom that isn't going nowhere. It's my Mum's Gift. :)
