Protótipo para um anel ajustável / Adjustable ring prototype

Recebi uma encomenda personalizada de três anéis e um pendente em que a cliente me forneceu as peças de vidro para fazer o wrapping, visto que não têm buracos. Cá estão elas:

Os anéis teriam que ser ajustáveis, o que veio acrescentar à dificuldade do projecto... Já nem falo do pendente porque ainda não cheguei lá!

Depois de extensas pesquisas consegui adquirir um tutorial para um anel ajustável que me agradou, mas decidi fazer um anel de teste para praticar e encontrar todos as dificuldades antes de fazer as peças finais. Ainda bem que o fiz, porque este anel não é fácil! Levou-me duas noites e muito suor para completar. Cometi e corrigi alguns erros, que tenho a certeza que não repetirei nas peças finais. Cá está o resultado:

I received a custom order for three rings and a pendant and the client gave me the glass pebbles to wrap, since they have no holes. Here they are:

The rings would have to be adjustable, which added to the difficulty of this project... I'm not even talking about the pendant because I haven got around to it yet!

After some research I found a tutorial for an adjustable ring that I liked, but I decided to make a test ring in order to practice and come across all the problems and whatnots before making the final pieces. I'm glad I did it too, this has been giving me a hard time! It took me two nights and plenty of cussing and swearing to finish. I made and corrected some mistakes, that I'm sure I won't make again in the final pieces. Here's the end result:

Finalmente... Juntei-me ao Twitter!
Sempre que me falavam nisso eu dizia que não tinha tempo, que mesmo assim já não consigo chegar a tudo em que me meti e que não ia meter-me em mais uma coisa que requer o meu tempo e a minha atenção.
Pela boca morre o peixe...

I finnally did it! I joined Twitter!
Everytime somebody asked me about it I'd say that I didn't have the time, that I can't get to everything I want as is and that I wasn't going to get into one more thing that needs my time and attention.
Yeah... I talk too much...

Espessura de arame / Wire gauges

Uma das dificuldades com que me deparo frequentemente ao seguir tutoriais de arame são as unidades de medida, quer o diâmetro do arame quer o comprimento necessário, porque muitas vezes uso tutoriais em inglês. Assim, resolvi criar uma tabela para me ajudar a converter rapidamente essas medidas para as unidades com que estou familiarizada.
É bom lembrar que, nas medidas são apresentadas em gauge, quanto maior for o número, mais fino é o arame.

One of the issues I stumble upon frequently while reading tutorials is the measurements, either the diameter of the wire or the length necessary, because I mostly read them in English. So, I created a chart to help me to swiftly convert those measurements into the units that I'm most comfortable with.
As a reminder I'll just say that, in gauge numbers, the bigger the number, the thinner the wire.

It's Better Handmade Group - Facebook

A semana passada a minha querida Mollie convidou-me a juntar-me ao grupo It's Better Handmade no Facebook. Fui investigar e gostei bastante do grupo por isso juntei-me a eles facilmente e deparei de imediato com um evento chamado Sea Shell Sunday.  Este evento/desafio consiste em publicar, aos os Domingos entre 6 de Junho e 3 de Outubro, uma peça relacionada com o mar.

Tem "eu" chapadinha, né?! Especialmente com as minhas últimas descobertas de Vidro Marinho!

Infelizmente, este Domingo não pude participar, nem estive em casa tempo suficiente para ligar o computador durante o dia, e à noite estive a ver O Diabo Veste Prada e esqueci-me completamente! De qualquer forma, achei que não devia desperciçar esta oportunidade e resolvi escrever no blog a este respeito. Portanto, cá fica a peça que vou publicar para o Sea Shell Sunday de 13 de Junho:

No princípio de Maio fiz a minha primeira "expedição" à praia em busca de Vidro Marinho. Passei lá duas horas muito entretida, com o meu filhote e a minha sogra e, entre outras, trouxe de lá esta pequena maravilha (pelo menos para mim, é!). Um pedaço de Vidro Marinho branco, perfeitamente polido pelo oceano e medindo aproximadamente 2,5 cm de altura por1,5 cm de largura.

Desculpem-me a foto não estar lá grande coisa, mas foi tirada um bocadinho à pressa...

Entretanto fui "desviada" do Vidro Marinho pelas muitas outras peças de que já vos falei num post anterior, feitas para os aniverários de alguns amigos, e não voltei a pegar nele até uma amiga me pedir para lhe fazer um porta-chaves em que incluísse Vidro Marinho branco e pérolas.

O malvado porta-chaves está a dar-me água pelas barbas! Por mais que faça e desfaça e experimente uma série de configurações diferentes, nunca me sinto satisfeita com ele. Infelizmente a minha amiga não tem endereço de e-mail, por isso não podia enviar-lhe fotos e obter a opinião dela durante o processo de criação. Acabei por convidar a minha amiga para jantar connosco hoje. Tenho uma série de peças diferentes feitas e vou dar-lhe a escolher as que ela quer incorporar no porta-chaves dela! Tcha-nan! Já estava a ficar sem ideias! Não imaginam a quantidade de vezes que fiz e desfiz aquele porta-chaves!!!

Voltando ao Sea shell Sunday!

O pequeno pedaço de Vidro Marinho que recolhi no princípio de Maio chamou-me a meio da criação do porta-chaves. E foi insistente. Reclamava que era a sua vez e que eu tinha que lhe dar atenção! E não é que tinha razão. Uma destas noites resolvi dar uma folga ao porta-chaves e peguei neste pedacinho de paixão marinha. O resultado foi este:

Modéstia à parte, eu acho que ficou lindo! Já me tinham dito que vale sempre a pena ouvir o que as peças nos pedem e acabei por confirmar. Este Vidrinho determinado, do alto dos seus agora 4 cm de altura por 2,5 cm de largura, queria porque queria que eu lhe desse algum brilho... Ofereci-lhe um cristal Swarovski, e cerquei-o de ondas para que recordasse sempre o oceano de onde o tirei.

Last week my dear Mollie invited me to join the It's Better Handmade Group on. I checked it out and I really like the group so to join them was a no-brainer, and I noticed an event called Sea Shell Sunday.  This event/challenge is about posting, on Sundays between June 6 and October 3, an ocean related piece.

It's "me" all over! Especially with my recent discoveries of Sea Glass!

Unfortunately, this Sunday I couldn't take part of it, I wasn't even at home long enough to turn on my computer during the day, and at nigh I watched The Devil Wears Prada and totally forgot! Anyway, I thought this opportunity shouldn't go to waste and I decided to blog about it. So, here's the piece I'm going to post on Sea shell sunday on June 13:

It was early May when I went on my first "expedition" to the beach to search for Sea Glass. I spent two great hours at the beach, with my son and my mother-in-law and, among others, I brought home with me this small wonder (at least it's wonderful for me!). A piece of white Sea Glass, perfectly polished by the ocean and measuring about 2,5 cm high by 1,5 cm wide.

I'm sorry about the bad picture, but it was taken a bit in a hurry...

In the mean time I got sidetracked from Sea glass by the many other pieces that I have blogged about before, handcrafted for some friends birthdays, and I didn't think about it until a friend asked me to make her a key chain with white Sea Glass and pearls.

That wicked key chain is really making me sweat! As much as I make it and take it apart and try a bunch of different configurations, I'm never happy with it. Unfortunately my friend has no e-mail address, so I can't send her pictures and get her feedback during the creation process. I ended up inviting her over for dinner tonight. I have a bunch of different component made up and I'll have her choose what to incorporate in her key chain! Ta-da! I was running out of ideas for it! You cannot imagine how many times I made that key chain and took it apart!!!

Back to Sea shell Sunday!

The little piece of Sea Glass I picked up in May kept calling me in the middle of my key chain creation. And he was pushy. It kept claiming it was its turn and that I had to pay it some attention! And wasn't it right?! One of these nights i decided to take a break from the key chain and picked up this little piece of sea passion. This is the end result:

Modesty aside, I think it looks gorgeous! I have been told before that it's always worth it to listen to what the beads ask and I ended up experiencing it myself. This little determined Sea Glass, from the top of it's now 4 cm high by 2,5 cm wide, wanted and kept asking me to give it some bling... I gave it a Swarovski crystal, and surrounded it with waves so that it will always remember the ocean from where I took it.
