Como não me permitem mudar o nome da minha página, fui forçada a criar uma página nova... Visto que eles mudaram as páginas, está tudo diferente e ando às voltas para conseguir colocar tudo a funcionar na minha nova página!

Ensaio em cobre - Parte II / Trial in copper - Part II

Enquanto trabalhava na Sra. Espiral do primeiro ensaio fui tendo ideias para novas peças... Como eu disse, quando a criatividade ataca não há volta a dar!

Olhava e observava a conversa da Sra. Espiral com a Sra. Garnet e já imaginava que uma espiral feita de outra forma era capaz de ficar... Assim germinou a ideia para o meu segundo ensaio com cobre e cristais Swarovski.

Mais uma vez iniciei o mesmo processo: comecei por moldar as espirais com diversos mandris, com as mãos e diversos alicates, quando a peça atingiu o formato desejado foi a vez do martelo trabalhar. É aqui que o processo diverge. De seguida peguei no último pedaço de arame de 0.3 mm do rolo e teci-o de forma a unir os diversos círculos. Gostei.

Gostei da forma, do fluir do arame e do modo como cada círculo se encaixava perfeitamente no seu lugar... Eis senão quando vou à procura de outro rolo de arame de 0.03mm que eu tinha a certeza que tinha, novinho, e... nada! Acabou-se-me o arame! Oh! Desgraça! A Senhora Dona Musa a gritar-me aos ouvidos e eu a ter que ir a correr para a net para encomendar arame! Não encontro nos meus fornecedores habituais o arame de que preciso! Ohhhhh, calamidade! Não há justiça neste mundo! Salvou-me o Baú, a quem eu muito agradeço, com um rolo de arame de cobre de 0.2mm que não era exactamente o que eu queria, mas iria ter que servir para calar  os ameaços de fuga para o Havai da Sra. D. Musa e a Exma. Sra. Criatividade mais a sua gritaria infernal!

Quando o arame 0.2 chegou dediquei-me logo a passar para o mundo real aquilo que ainda permanecia no meu imaginário, e comecei a tecer um muito longo arame (enorme, compridíssimo, e cheio de curvas e manias) nos dois círculos exteriores. Levei uma semana a completar a tecelagem do arame! Leia-se uma semana a trabalhar duas a três horas por noite. Duas décimas de milímetro de cada vez, lá fui cobrindo o exterior da minha espiral graduada.

Ao fim dessa semana, olhei para o pendente determinada a declará-lo acabado... Estava lindo, mas faltava-lhe... Faltava-lhe qualquer coisa... Um brilho, um toque de cor... Foi então que voltei a abrir a caixinha dos cristais Swarovski. Oh! Nem queiram saber! O Sr. Arame olhou directamente para a Menina Turquesa, a Menina Turquesa perdeu-se a olhar o Sr. Arame e foi como se mais nade existisse! De tal forma que a Menina Turquesa, tão pura e tão bela, cora tanto, tanto que quase me muda de cor no mesmo instante! Oh, não! Nem pensar! Celebrei-lhes logo ali o casamento e a D. Turquesa agora, anda tão feliz, tão feliz que não consegue deixar de sorrir!

While I was working on Miss Spiral from the first trial, ideas kept popping up in my mind for other pieces... Like I said, when creativity strikes there's nothing elso to do but obey!

I watched and listened to the conversation between Miss Spiral and Miss Garnet and I was already imagining that a spiral made in a different way might look... That's how the idea for my second copper and Swarovski's trial spawned.

Once again I started the same process:  I begun by shaping the spiral with several mandrils, with my hands and pliers, and when the piece took the desired shape it was the hammer's time to work. This is where the process differs. Next I picked up the last piece of 0.3mm wire from the spool and wove it to the frame in order to unite the several circles. I liked it.

I liked the shape, I liked the flow of the wire and the way each circle fitted perfectly in it's place... Here's when I start looking for the other spool of 0.3mm wire I was so sure to have, brand new, and... nothing! I'm all out of this wire! Oh! Doom!  Mrs. Muse is screaming in my ears while I run to the web to order some more wire! I can't find it in the gauge I need on my regular suppliers! Ohhhhh, calamity! There's no justice in this world! Baú came to the rescue, and i thank them so much, with a spool of 0.2mm copper wire that wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it would have to do to silence Mrs. Muse threat of flight to Hawaii, and Ma'am Creativity's infernal  screams!

When the 0.2mm wire arrived I dedicated myself to putting in the real world what was still in my imaginary, and started weaving a very long wire (huge, looooong, and very ready to kink) to the two outer circles. It took me a week to finish the wire weaving! Meaning a week working two to three hours each night. Two-tenths of a millimeter at a time, I wove the outside of my graduated spiral.

By the end of this week, I looked at the pendant  determined to declare it finished... It was gorgeous, but it lacked... It lacked something... A sparkle, a splash of color... That's when I opened the Swarovski box again. Oh! You don't want to know! Mr. Wire looked straight at Miss Turquoise, Miss Turquoise got lost staring at Mr. Wire and it was like the rest of the world evaporated! It was so intense that Miss Turquoise, so pure and beautiful, starts to blush intensely, she blushed so much that she almost changed color completely in that instant! Oh, no! No way! I celebrated their wedding right there and then and Little Turquoise is so happy, so happy that she can't stop smiling!

Cá estou eu de volta!

Ando sempre a correr e quando a criatividade ataca não há forma de eu conseguir vir actualizar o blog. O arame e as contas GRIIITAM por mim!

Tenho andado a fazer uns ensaios de peças em cobre, até porque me estão a servir para fazer experiências e adquirir conhecimento para, depois, poder fazer uma encomenda especial que me pediram. Já encomendei os materiais de que vou precisar para esta encomenda e estou à espera que cheguem dos diversos fornecedores.

Uma parte já chegou, foram estas briolettes de ametista que me vão servir para fazer um protótipo para a tal encomenda, que vai ser feita com briolettes de água-marinha que são lindas de morrer!

Vou fazer um ou dois protótipos com estas briolettes de ametista e cobre, para mostrar à cliente e ver o que ela prefere, e em seguida faço a peça que ela escolher em prata e as tais briolettes de água-marinha. 

Já disse que elas são lindas demais?! Ainda não fiz nada com elas, mas temos tido longas conversas pelas noites adentro e já tenho uma boa ideia do que elas querem ser....

De volta aos meus ensaios em cobre... Tenho trabalhado principalmente com cristais Swarovski que fazem um contraste extraordinariamente belo com o cobre, que nada perde da sua beleza com a pátina natural que o cobre vai adquirindo ao passar do tempo.

Aqui está o primeiro ensaio com cobre e cristais Swarovski. Era para ser um pendente com duas espirais idênticas, mas depois de fazer a primeira não gostei do aspecto com as duas espirais do mesmo tamanho e acabei por cortar a segunda e fazê-la só como um pequeno apontamento em cobre sólido.

Comecei por moldar as espirais com os dedos e um alicate em arame de cobre redondo e, quando me dei por satisfeita com a forma, peguei no martelo e trabalhei o metal para o endurecer e ficar com este aspecto mais achatado. Foi mais ou menos por esta altura que eu decidi que não gostava da segunda espiral a fazer concorrência à primeira. Cortei-a e depois é que foi uma chatice! É que trabalhar um arame tão grosso como este já não é muito fácil, depois de martelado e endurecido então, nem vos conto! Não preciso, está lá as marcas do alicate para contar como me vi grega para fazer esta pequena e simples espiral!

De seguida, cortei um longo pedaço de arame de 0.3mm, abri a caixinha dos cristais e deixei que a espiral escolhesse a sua companhia... A Sra. Espiral trocou umas palavrinhas com o Light Peach, mas desentenderam-se num instante, de seguida trocou olhares com o Sr. Smokey Topaz mas achou que aquele hábito do fumo ainda lhe havia de fazer alergia e afastou-se sem sequer lhe falar, foi então que deu de caras com a Sra. Garnet. Oh! Enrolaram-se as duas a cortar na casaca do Sr. Smokey Topaz, servindo-se à vez do arame de 0.3mm de excelente colheita, e nunca mais se largaram!

Adorei o resultado final, só tenho pena de ter deixado as marcas do alicate, mas ainda vou trabalhar numa solução para isso com o meu Dremel.

I'm always running around and when creativity strikes there's no way I can come here to update the blog. The wire and the beads just start SCREEAAMMING for me!

I've been making some trials in copper pieces, and I'll be using them to experiment and learn, so that I can make a special order I've received. I have ordered the supplies I'll need for this order and I'm waiting for them to arrive from several suppliers.

A part of it has arrived, it's these amethyst briolettes that I'll use to make a prototype for that special order, which will be done using drop dead gorgeous aquamarine briolettes!

I'll make one or two prototypes with amethysts and copper to show my client and see what she prefers, and then I'll do it in silver and the aquamarine briolettes.

Have I told you they're drop dead gorgeous? I haven't worked with them yet, but we've been having some long conversations into the night and I now have a pretty good idea of what they want to be...

Back to my copper trials... I have been working mostly with Swarovski crystals, they look so exquisite in contrast with the copper, it's beautiful and it loses nothing of its beauty with the natural patina the copper gets in time.

Here's my first copper and crystals trial. It was supposed to be a double spiral pendant, but after making the frame I didn't like the look of the two identical spirals together and ended up cutting the second one and turn it into a small detail in solid copper.
I started out by hand shaping the round copper wire spirals with my fingers and pliers and, when I was happy with its shape, I picked up the hammer and proceeded to harden and flatten the wire.

It was just about here when I realized I didn't like the competition between the two spirals. So I cut one and then trouble hit me, and it hit me hard! Working with this heavy a gauge wire is not easy in itself, after hammered and hardened... I'm not even going there! Well, I don't have to, the tool marks are there as a tell tale of how hard it was to make this small and simple spiral!

Next, I cut a long piece of 0.3mm wire, I opened the box of crystals and allowed the spiral to choose her companion... Miss Spiral exchanged a few words with Mr. Light Peach, but they started quarreling pretty quickly. Next she exchanged glances with Mr. Smokey Topaz but she had the ominous feeling that his smoking habit would make her allergies act up and walked away without speaking to him, that's when she stumbled into Miss Garnet. Oh! They both got so wrapped up bending Mr. Smokey Topaz's ear, while taking turns with the excellent harvest of 0.3 mm wire, and they never separated since!

I love the end result, I just feel sorry for the tool marks, but I'll work it out with my Dremel.
